Short-term scientific missions (STSMs) aim to support the capacity building and transfer of knowledge through bilateral/multilateral collaborations that can help achieve the COST Action MoU objectives and deliverables.
STSM consists of visiting a host organisation in a different country to learn new techniques and gain access to specific data, instruments, or methods not available in the affiliation Institute or Organisation.
The application for an STMS has to contribute to the COST Action’s scientific aims and Working Groups’ objectives. Furthermore, special considerations by the STSM Committee are for supporting COST policies on promoting gender balance, enabling researchers and innovators, and broadening geographical inclusiveness.
Typical outcomes of STSMs are spin-off publications and (funded) projects that contribute to the visibility and impact of the COST Action, encouraging other researchers to join.
Anyone from COST Countries or NNC is eligible to apply, but the researchers from other countries called “International Partner Countries (IPC)” are not eligible.
To apply for an STMS, the applicant has to access the e-COST portal and create an e-COST profile (if needed).
